NIPS was formed in1988 at Kurunegala by a group of concerned doctors headed by Dr. Lucien Weliwita Gunaratne together with some philanthropists. The late Sir Arthur C Clarke was its first patron. In 1992 it was moved to Kandy. NIPS is a National volunteer organization and a Government approved charity

To do every thing possible to improve the quality of life of paraplegic patients so that they can lead an independent life as possible, which includes home employment projects. We also try to support their families.
